2011 Lightning Class Champions - Noa Hopper and Josie Ballard
At the Three Nations Regatta on Saturday March 26th, 2011 Coach Chris Barlow awarded the
2010 - 2011 Lightning Class Trophy to overall points winners Noa Hopper and Josie Ballard.
Points were awarded to the top finishers based on their age and their best finshes in 5 out of the
9 races.
After the series in the Lightning Trainer Kayaks Noa Hopper was able to take the lead from Bayley Olds due to the fact that Noa is under 12 and picked up extra age points towards his overall total of 105 points compared to Bayley's 100 points. Bayley won the majority of the races and gained invaluable racing experience allowing him to move up to doing some of the SOCAL Ocean Racing Series races where he performed admirably for someone so new to the sport. Noa is turning into quite the waterman, racing on paddleboards, SUP's and playing Water Polo, this is the 2nd year in a row that Noa has his name on the Lightning Trophy.
Josie Ballard pretty much led the series from the start in the young ladies division scoring a total of 107 points. Josie has only been paddling for a few months and it is clear by her Lightning Class results that she has a great paddling career ahead of her. Lauren Da Costa clinched the 2nd place spot closely followed by Lilly Glasser with 97 and 96 points each.
