Youth Paddling

Intro to Paddling (Spring and Fall)

The Intro course is for kids (age 8+) who would like to discover the sport of paddling. All levels are welcome! Get outdoors and on the water, learn paddle technique and water safety, and enjoy competition with friends! Following the camp, paddlers may be invited to join our Development team, where they will continue to work on their paddling skills and prepare to start racing!

Session 1: Monday, February 26th - Saturday, March 30th

Session 2: Monday, April 1st - Saturday, May 4th

Session 3: Monday, May 6th - Saturday, June 8th

Monday 4 -6 pm, Wednesday 4-6 pm and Saturday 9 -11 am. 15 total meetings per 5-week session.

 

Summer Camp Intro to Paddling

The Intro camp is for kids (age 8+) who would like to discover the sport of paddling. During the two-week camps, kids will learn water safety and paddling technique in kayaks, surfskis, high-kneel canoes, and SUPs (Stand-Up Paddleboards). Upon completion, they are welcome to join the Development Team!

 

Summer Development

Development is recommended for paddlers who have completed the Intro to Paddling course and would like to continue paddling over the summer. It will run until an end of season race in September.

Monday 4 -6 pm, Wednesday 4-6 pm and Saturday 9 -11 am.

 

Junior Racing Team

Junior Racing is for paddlers who have committed to canoe/kayak as a sport and are ready to race!

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 4 - 6:30 pm. Saturday 9 am - 12 pm.

*Junior Racing summer hours (starting Monday, June 19th):

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 3 - 6 pm. Saturday 9 am - 12 pm.

Parent Associate

If you have a child in an SDCKT program and are interested in paddling, consider signing up for a Parent Associate membership. You will be able to paddle during scheduled workouts once equipment has been allocated to Junior Paddlers.

Seniors and Masters

Joining the Seniors/Masters program is an excellent way to improve aerobic fitness and paddling skills and to meet people. Open for year-round training to men and women (19+), beginner and experienced paddlers, and to those looking to paddle just for fitness as well as those wanting to race as part of the team in Regional, National and International Competitions.

All Senior & Master members have access to the Boathouse, Weight room, team boats and paddles. Storage available for personal equipment. You can paddle on your own schedule or join in the set practices.

Guest Paddler

Members of SDCKT are welcome to bring friends down for a day of paddling. They MUST be accompanied by a SDCKT member during all paddling sessions or attend one of the SDCKT set practices.

SDCKT also welcomes out of town and International Paddlers to our club to paddle with other club members or at set practices.

If you are an experienced, competitive paddler we welcome you to join the Racing Team for a paddle. Contact us to jump into a team practice.

SDCKT does not rent boats to the public.

Members are responsible for the actions of their guests and any damage that may occur.

SDCKT is a non-profit organization and contributions are gratefully accepted.

Collegiate

The Collegiate Program is for college students, experienced paddlers and beginners alike, 18 years of age or older. This program includes a full-time program paddling 5+ times a week and 2+ gym sessions. The collegiate program is monitored closely by Coach Barlow who writes the weekly/monthly program. We have a scholarship program with Point Loma University, too - please inquire!

Adaptive & Para

Learn to Paddle Para Canoe
The Paracanoe Learn to Paddle Program is an adapted paddle program for people with physical challenges/disabilities. The sessions offer an opportunity for people with disabilities to come down and try it out!  

​Coaches and volunteers work in a friendly, knowledgeable and safe environment to help you explore the range of adaptive equipment and get out on the water.  No paddling experience necessary but participants must be comfortable in and around water. This program will be hands on with coaches and volunteers, and will be in small groups.

High Performance Para Canoe
Paracanoe (Canoe, Kayak and Va'a) includes men and women with physical disabilities (spinal cord injury, amputation, cerebral palsy, Les Autres) racing in 200 meter flat water sprint races, in lanes 9 meters wide.

Intensive practices for those athletes aspiring to international competition. These sessions will be dictated by the coach and can run from 3-6 days a week. This program runs year round.
