Meet some of our current athletes training as part of SDCKT.
KAYAK SPRINT
Nate Humberston – Sprint Kayak Athlete
Nate is a sprint kayak athlete with the San Diego Canoe & Kayak Team, competing in the K1, K2, and K4 classes. He is a versatile paddler across multiple distances, with a primary focus on the K4 500m, which is his strongest and favorite event.
Nate’s racing career includes a gold medal in the K1 1000m at the 2019 U.S. National Championships. He has also earned international K4 podium finishes at the 2022 Pan-American Championships in Halifax, the 2023 Pan-American Games in Santiago, and the 2025 Pan-American Championships in Asunción. This season, he is focused on qualifying for the U.S. Sprint National Team in the K4 500m and later hopes to compete in surfski at the Surf Lifesaving World Championships.
Arseni Mashko – Sprint Kayak Athlete
Arseni Mashko is an international student-athlete from Belarus and a senior at Point Loma Nazarene University. Based in San Diego, he trains with the SDCKT and competes in sprint kayak events including K1 200m, K1 500m, and K2 200m.
From 2019 to 2022, Arseni earned multiple podium finishes in official Belarusian national selection events, including Olympic Days of Youth and Spartakiada. In 2022, he reached the podium at the Belarus Junior Championship in both K1 200m and K2 200m. He also competed at the Junior 2023 U.S. Sprint Selection Trials, winning K1 200m and K1 500m. In 2025, he raced in the Men’s Senior K2 500m Direct Final at the ACA Sprint Selection Trials and has also earned multiple wins in California regional kayak and surfski races.

CANOE SPRINT
Nevin Harrison – Sprint Canoe Athlete
Nevin is a 2-time Olympian including Paris 2024 where she won silver (C1 200m - Women) and Tokyo 2020 where she won gold (C1 200m - Women)
Nevin has also competed in World Championships where the following results took place: 2023 – 4th (C1 200m - Women). Years of participation: C1 200m - Women 2019, 2022, 2023; C2 200m - Women 2022; C2 500m - Women 2019. Nevin took home Gold in 2022 (C1 200m - Women) and in 2019 (C1 200m - Women).
Kenny Kasperbauer – Sprint Canoe Athlete
Kenny is a sprint canoe athlete who competes primarily in the C1 200m and C2 500m events. A native of Gig Harbor, Washington, and a graduate of the University of Washington, he continues to race at a high level with a strong focus on speed and performance in both the 200m and 500m distances.
Kenny currently holds 9 of the 10 fastest C1 200m times ever recorded in the United States. He has also reached multiple A-Finals at World Cups and earned a 12th-place finish at the World Championships. This season, he is focused on improving his times in both events and working toward qualification for the Olympic Games in the C2 500m.
Audrey Harper – Sprint Canoe Athlete
Audrey is a sprint canoe athlete who competes in C1 and C2 events over 200m, 500m, and 5,000m. She races across both sprint and longer-distance events and continues to build her experience at the international level.
Her top results include a bronze medal in C2 200m and an 8th-place finish in C2 500m at the 2025 Sprint Canoe World Championships. She also earned bronze medals in both C1 200m and C1 500m at the 2025 Junior World Championships. This season, Audrey’s goal is to keep enjoying the sport and continue learning from every racing opportunity.
Andreea Ghilzia – Sprint Canoe Athlete
Andreea is a sprint canoe athlete who competes in C1 and C2 events over 200m and 500m, and occasionally in the 5,000m. She races across both individual and team boat events and continues to develop at the international level.
Her top results include a bronze medal in C2 200m and an 8th-place finish in C2 500m at the 2025 Sprint Canoe World Championships. She also placed 7th in C1 200m at the 2023 World Cup and Olympic Test Event in Paris. This season, Andreea’s goals are to stay healthy, improve her starts, and continue getting stronger in the C2.
Emma Albrecht – Sprint Canoe Athlete
Emma is a sprint canoe athlete who competes in C1 200m and C1 500m events. She continues to develop her performance while gaining experience at the international level. Her top results include a 5th-place finish in the B-final of the C1 500m at the 2025 World Championships, as well as a 5th-place finish in the B-final at the 2025 U23 World Championships.
Emma attends Point Loma Nazarene University, where she studies Applied Health Science. This season, her goal is to continue improving her performance, stay healthy, keep learning, and deepen her passion for the sport.
OCEAN RACING
Taj Crellin – Sprint Canoe Athlete
Taj Crellin is an Australian surf ski paddler based in San Diego, California. He is a student at Point Loma Nazarene University and a member of the San Diego Canoe & Kayak Team, where he competes in SS1 and continues to develop as an ocean racing athlete.
Taj’s results include a 7th-place finish at the 2023 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships in Perth in the SS1 Junior Men 20 km event. He also won an Australian title in the U19 Single Ski Relay at the Aussies, finished 1st overall in the Australian Ocean Racing Series Junior Ski standings, and won the 2023 Paddle Queensland PCORS U19 series title. He is now focused on progressing into senior-level competition and building toward the 2026 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships in Spain.
Ava Crellin – Sprint Canoe Athlete
Ava Crellin is an Australian ocean paddler based in San Diego, California. She is a student at Point Loma Nazarene University and a member of the San Diego Canoe & Kayak Team, where she focuses on long-distance ocean racing. Coming from a surf lifesaving background, she typically competes in races of 12 km and longer.
Ava’s results include 1st in U19 and 3rd overall at the 2024 Paddle Shop Island Ocean Paddle, along with 2nd in U18 and 9th overall at the 2024 Coolangatta Gold Downwind
Paddle. She has also earned finalist and semifinalist finishes at the Australian and Queensland State Titles in Ironperson and ski events. This season, she is focused on continuing to build endurance and strength while becoming more consistent in open water racing.
